Everyone of us have dreamt of many things that we want in our life, things that we would want to see happen, things that we don't want to happen. Well, here are my dreams that I want to share with you all.
I've always dreamed of and wished to do some charity work. I "inherited" this dream from my family. I wanted to see some change around me and I wanted to be a part of that change. I always liked spending time with children at an orphanage, not just because those are the lives that haven't seen the world like we did, that haven't been enjoying life like we do but also because those are the lives that inspire us, that make us realise what life really is, that makes us realise how tiny yet powerful, how "impactful" we are in this beaultiful world.
Many a times, I thought of giving it a start but wasn't able to. On one regular day at the college, I happened to go through my friend, Vinod Arumugam's book. In that book was a note with a heading "Just Helping". The heading itself was curious enough to dive deep into the topic. I read all that he had written in it and was infact surprised, to be honest, to find that in his book! He had the exact idea of what I wanted to do. I told him my desire to work for it and we decided to kick-start it in our department at the college. One fine day, we decided to talk to our department head regarding the same. We took our(Vinod's, Srinand's and mine) idea to her along with Santosh, another friend of mine. We were all surprised to learn that our HOD was very eager to carry out such an activity and she instantly agreed to our idea. Soon we got the "clearance" from our Principal to carry out such activities on campus, thanks to our HOD, Shylaja mam.
We shortlisted two orphanages near to our college. One orphanage really needed funds. But they weren't free for atleast a month from when we approached them. So, we ended up conducting few activities at a well-funded orphanage itself (I'm not writing any details about the orphanage to respect their privacy). Some of our friends and we went to that orphange on some day and spent some very good time with the kids over there (To know more about those activities, check out "Just Helping" tab). We just had so much fun there. With a sense of satisfaction and heart full of contentment, we bid adieu to the kids and took off to college. When we met our HOD, she was very happy that this thing did take place. All our faces were filled with a mile-long smile full of proudness and happiness. Yes, we were "proud" because we started "the" change and we were a part of it. Honestly, I had never been so much happy earlier. When some of the staff of our department learnt of the activity we undertook, they were all very happy and wanted to be a part of it, the next time we did something like that.
The support that we got from our friends and well wishers was immense. I'm sure many of our friends who couldn't be a part of this will join us in our next activities. This was just the begining..
All I want to convey is, be the change that you want to see. Be the example that others could use(ofcourse for good!).
There has been another dream of mine, a dream that I ve been dreaming from a very long time - to play in a band; to play with music! More about this dream coming soon..
too gud!!! I would like to part of "the" change :)
ReplyDeletesure :) we'll let you all know when we take up such an activity next time. :)

ReplyDeleteHey, in the blog u talked abt 2 orphanages. Is one in/near Raja Rajeshwari Nagar? Coz I've been to an orphanage there, for girl children, a few times to do some work there, and we could do it together :)
ohh.. no, those two orphanages are in Basavanagudi.
ReplyDeleteGood job u too! yea sure. we can definitely take up work over there too. we are just waiting for the sem to start. Once sem starts, we'll approach HOD. We are planning to get children to the college and engaging them in activities. Also planning to take up a computer coaching activity for the kids. Hoping to use our labs :)
